    Pros:

    Ivan Drago is back!

The personal battles nearly overshadowing the battles in the ring.

    Cons:

    Too similar to Rocky IV.

    Overall:

Creed II continues where the previous film left off with Adonis conquering it all. From here there is so much given to fans of Rocky IV with the return of Rocky’s toughest opponent and the one responsible for Apollo Creed’s death – Ivan Drago. It is exciting to see what has happened since that battle and piecing it all together from what happened to his wife and mother of his son who is battling it out in the Ukraine underground in comparison to the glitz and glamour that Adonis enjoys.

The out of the ring battle is by far the strongest in this film with Adonis fighting the battle within with growing responsibilities and challenges other than just in the squared circle. But the fight storyline took such an expected route to follow Rocky IV it is some sort of a missed opportunity for it to forge its own path. When their fight happened too early in the movie it could only end with one outcome and a comeback needed. What the rematch must be in Russia? Where did that last happen? Oh yeah Rocky IV did it. Got to go train somewhere harder before this match, yeah Rocky would know because he did that too. Most of the interactions between Adonis (Michael B. Jordan), Rocky (Sylvester Stallone) and Bianca (Tessa Thompson) keep the emotion in the story flowing with good performances.

Overall it probably takes a bit too much from the past film rather than build on it and explore the hard times faced by Drago after the loss. Seems like a lost opportunity, but Creed fans still have something that is good enough to have them wanting another one in the series.
