Good performances by all that makes the dynamics work.

Funny moments throughout keeping it upbeat.

Some silly moments that took away from the seriousness when it could have been used to build it up.

In the age where the conversion of comic books onto the big screen means big dollars “Guardians of the Galaxy” may seem like a gamble at first. With audiences used to the big names brought together as in The Avengers you would be forgiven for thinking that. Just look at it, instead of Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth and Scarlett Johansson you have the voice from The Lego Movie, a WWE wrestler, a tree with one line and a raccoon with an attitude.

But as you will find in the movie that these misfits come together so well they will have you cheering for them in the end. Chris Pratt plays the lead role well as a looter with a troubled past with the only connection to his parents being an old music mix that his mother gave him as a child. Zoe Saldana does an incredible job to make Gamora, a green alien assassin sexy. Bradley Cooper voices Rocket Raccoon to bring the attitude and partnership with Groot – voiced by Vin Diesel and plays a talking tree that only knows the one line that is his name. Dave Bautista has found his home in the role of Drax the destroyer who is the muscle of the group and has some great one-liners throughout the movie which get the big laughs.

After finding themselves together in a high security prison, they all have their own reasons for using each other to get out and succeeding in achieving their future plans. Something they don’t particularly like doing, but as in previous Marvel movies, the real action happens when they work together as a team.

The special effects are done well throughout to create a gritty type of universe and to bring the characters of Rocket and Groot into the mix without loss of believability by the audience and is proven with the amount of laughs had throughout. It is a different type of film with a more upbeat tone set by the interaction of the characters and the music.

It is a fun and cool ride into space with these characters and has created a different side to the Marvel universe that comes out well which the audience will enjoy. And for the Marvel geeks inside of us all it is exciting to see Benicio Del Toro bring his “Collector” character from Thor into the movie that creates that connection between to two superhero stables.
