Shazam!

Overall Rating: 7 out of 10 Based on 1 Review

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson's case, by shouting out one word - SHAZAM! - this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult superhero Shazam.

    Pros:

Performance from Zachary Levi as the lead.

The funny scenes involving the super power tests.

    Cons:

Some may not be used to a movie that pokes fun at itself and could find it too quirky.

    Overall:

In one of the more light hearted Super hero movies comes Shazam! The story of 14-year old Billy Batson who is given unimaginable powers from a wizard and now has the responsibility to save the world from an obsessed Dr. Thaddeus Sivana and the 7 deadly sins demons. While not understanding the powers that he possesses, his foster care family room mate Freddie, uses his super hero fan knowledge to test and document the results in YouTube videos to share with the world.

Zachary Levi who is previously from the Chuck television series has found the perfect role for himself playing a 14-year old trapped into a muscly super hero. His performance is unquestionable throughout and brings quirky charm into the lead role. It is not all good versus evil with Billy trying to find his place in the world as a teenager in the foster care system after becoming lost at a fair and losing his mother at a very young age. His persistence to find her along with dealing with his new surroundings is a heart-warming story in itself.

A good movie for super hero fans and teenagers as younger children may find the 7 deadly sins demons as a bit scary, but hey some like that, so a fun one overall to see. Good to see a different DC movie compared to the previous more dark and serious ones.
