Anna Karenina

Overall Rating: 2 out of 10 Based on 1 Review

Director Joe Wright (Atonement) adapts Leo Tolstoy’s classic romance novel set in the upper-class world of 19th-century Russia. Stars Keira Knightley and Jude Law, written for screen by Oscar-winner Tom Stoppard (Shakespeare in Love). Anna Karenina follows the tragic romance between married aristocrat and socialite Anna (Knightley) who the story is named after, and the affluent Count Vronsky (Aaron Johnson).

In late 19th-century Russia, socialite Anna Karenina (Keira Knightley) marries government official Karenin at the age of 18, despite the fact that she doesn't love him. While at a ball, she finds herself attracted to the wealthy Count Vronsky, who professes his love to her. Despite her feelings for him, she refuses his attentions. When he continues to pursue her, her willpower tested and her husband's government career is put at risk. This marks Wright and Knightley's third collaboration, after Atonement and Pride & Prejudice.

    Pros:

Beautifully filmed, clever staging, good performances by Keira Knightley and Jude Law.

    Cons:

It has been filmed as a stage show being watched at home, most of the scenes are filmed within the stage or in different parts of it. Makes it very difficult to follow the story line. Far too long.

    Overall:

Wait for DVD & rent it if you are keen to watch.
