Overall Rating: 8 out of 10 Based on 1 Review

Tom Hardy, Shia LaBeouf, Jessica Chastain, Guy Pearce and Gary Oldman star in this true-story, prohibition era gangster film from the makers of The Proposition. Set in Virginia during the depression, and based on the true story of the Bondurants brothers - three rural bootleggers who defied the crooked authorities that wanted a piece of their profits. Jack (LaBeouf), the youngest, aspires to live in the suited-up ranks of Al Capone, Howard (Jason Clarke), the middle, is a reckless brute, and Forrest (Hardy), the eldest, heads the family operation against the changing times. As the brothers’ legacy grows, so do the risks. This marks the second collaboration between director John Hillcoat and screenwriter Nick Cave, the first being the well-received Aussie western The Proposition.

Intriguing storyline - especially as it's based on a true story.

Interesting characters - Tom Hardy is tough as and surprising funny in a really DRY humour kind of way, Shia LaBeouf's character is irritating but adds to the storyline and Guy Pearce's character is successfully slimey.

There are some bloody scenes so it can get intense at times.

I really enjoyed this movie - it had a bit of a Forest Gump feel to it in the way the story was being told. So it's not a "typical happy" type of movie, but more of a "wow that actually happened" kind of movie. The story was told well and the actors did a good job! Would recommend seeing this as it was very good.
