Saving Mr. Banks

Overall Rating: 9 out of 10 Based on 1 Review

Emma Thompson (Two-time Academy Award Winner) and Tom Hanks (double Oscar Winner) topline Disney’s “Saving Mr. Banks”, inspired by the extraordinary, untold backstory of how Disney’s classic “Mary Poppins” made it to the screen.

Walt Disney’s 20 year long promise to his daughters to make a movie of their favorite book, P.L. Travers’ “Mary Poppins,” proves more challenging than he thought. In his quest to obtain the rights, Walt comes up against an uncompromising writer who has absolutely no intention of letting her beloved magical nanny get mauled by the Hollywood machine. But, as the books stop selling and money grows short, Travers reluctantly agrees to go to Los Angeles to hear Disney’s plans for the adaptation.

    Pros:

Based on a true story for the creation of a family favourite "Mary Poppins" and fantastic acting all round. The songs were great and interesting to see what it would have been like in the background of Disney's "happiest place on Earth". :-)

    Cons:

I think that it's more suited for a mature audience given it has some serious themes in the storyline.

    Overall:

This movie was fantastic! Emma Thompson, Tom Hanks and Colin Farrell did a wonderful job to show the background to the beloved Mary Poppins story. Whilst the movie had more serious aspects than what I originally anticipated, this doesn't detract from it being a great film for more mature audiences. It will take you on a journey of the writer and it's interesting to see where she came from and how her thoughts, fears and aspirations develop and how Walt Disney helps "bring her back". It's a heart warming and thought provoking must see movie!
