Pacific Rim

Overall Rating: 9 out of 10 Based on 2 Reviews

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanitys resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankinds last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Great cast, special effects that do NOT disappoint, great original storyline!

Surprisingly nothing worth noting which is rare in a monster movie!

Seriously if you haven't seen this movie yet - you need to! As far as EPIC movies go, this is worth watching on the big screen! Originally was unsure whether this movie was going to be hit/miss but after seeing what a great job they did with the overall story, special effects and characters that really pull you in, this movie is definitely a HIT!

The acting is great, monsters are convincing (which not all monster movies can pull off but this one does) and even the gals will appreciate scenes with some of the increasing popular actors from the TV series making their mark on the big screen (like Charlie Hunnam from "Sons of Anarchy" and Rob Kazinsky from "True Blood")!

Let's hope there is a SEQUEL!

The size of everything is huge.

Battles between the Kaiju and Jaegers.

As expected, some moments were a bit more unbelievable than others.

If director Guillermo Del Toro wanted to take us back to the experience of watching a Godzilla movie, he has succeeded. The battles are big throughout the movie with a lot of action between the Kaiju and Jaegers throughout the world’s major cities. The visuals are great and it is easy to forget how big these robots are until they are battling next to a skyscraper.

There are a lot of characters and personalities throughout from the superstar jocks that pilot the Jaegers to the comic relief in the form of two scientists with different views on the attacks. Even Ron Perlman steals screen time king of the black market on Kaiju body parts. But nothing is able to top the most memorable line in the movie when the rebel leader (Idris Elba) shouts out “today we are cancelling the apocalypse!”

The film is fun to watch throughout with its originality as it is great to watch something that is different from the norm. And this definitely is different. You will find yourself cheering from the seats as they do battle for the future of the planet!
